Redneck Modern?

Concord and Walnut Creek Eichlers

Hunter Wimmer and Cassandra Permenter recently bought an Eichler in Concord, California.  The home they purchased was in original condition.  They bought the home from the original owner’s family.  truly a diamond in the rough.

Hunter and Cassie have an eye for design and a very good understanding about construction.  Their story is told in their Blog:  www.RedneckModern.com.  I am very impressed with their work and have enjoyed reading about the transformation.

There are a lot of original Concord and Walnut Creek Eichlers owned by the orignal owners.  Each is a wonderful story of how they raised their family in these great communities.

Catchy URL they chose, looked at their http://www.beautifulwestoakland site and understand the “redneck” reference. Thanks for sharing more about Eichler devotee’s!

I will let you know about the Eichler Fair in March. It will have tradespeople and manufactures that specialize in California modern.

sam… thanks for the props… as per julie’s comment, not sure how she sees that “redneck” links to our old neighborhood, but after living in west oakland, concord is quite a transformation. in the half-decade we live there, i was pulled indiana-jones style behind a 91 pontiac after being “rolled” at a local ATM (pavement is rough on a body and i’ve the scars to prove it); we had a runaway van full of porno slam into our house christmas night; i was offered a bl*wjob by the corner prostitute after personally retrieving my neighbor’s stolen car battery from a thief; we began to recognize the difference between automatic gunfire and firecrackers; i had my local councilperson, police captain, planning commission and city attorney in my e-dress book (and used them often); i sat on several neighborhood committees and volunteered countless hours to try and help clean up the place of simple litter and garbage only to be called a “yuppie scum” by a guy who ironically lived six doors down in the same townhouse complex… the stories go on and on and regardless of race or economic position, no one should have to live in those conditions and it’s a bit appalling that oakland willingly allows this malaise exist (ironically a few blocks from the councilperson’s home) — and even more appalling that many (but not all) west oakland residents defend this way of life in some odd “stockholm syndrome” kind of way… and it got worse — much worse — each year we lived there, so those likely to cast the “you should have known” mantra should hold their tongue. we would not have considered moving there in 2001 had it been as 2006… as to the title of the eichler blog, it took two kids from virginia to move to california (and buy a modernist house) to justify the purchase of an old pickup… nothing more.
